As all Americans, our family was devastated by the tragedy of 9/11.  As a result of this horrific and cowardly act, our family felt a patriotism we never felt before.  We were so anxious to do something patriotic, to show our love for our country that my daughter and I decided to build a flagpole and fly the "Stars and Bars" high and with the utmost pride in our front yard. 

This was a wonderful "Father/Daughter" project and afforded us an opportunity to discuss many things: what it is to be an American, how privileged we are as Americans and unfortunately why some people hate us as Americans.

Shortly after raising our flag in our front yard, our neighbor inquired about our flagpole, as did our local Texaco Station manager. They both stated that they would like one of our flagpoles. We were more than happy to build and install the flagpoles for our dear friends. 

In the next week; family, friends and many passersby inquired about our modest little flagpole; which was nothing more than a piece of galvanized steel tubing.  As word got out that we were building flagpoles, the response was overwhelming.  We knew we must improve upon our flagpoles if were to continue to build them.

With a little effort, we contacted the appropriate vendors and are now building a very high quality product that is built to last. Not only are we proud of our poles, but first and foremost of our daughter who initiated this family endeavor.

Our daughter, who is seven years old and is in the second grade, calls herself the "President" of Flagpole Express.  She is very much involved in the business in terms of construction, sales, and installation and very involved in the money management aspect of the business. We can not believe how she has taken a small "backyard" project and helped turn it into a successful small business.

As President of Flagpole Express, she believes she is entitled to a portion of the profits.  She has designated her proceeds to a pony trailer, so that she may transport her pony to the local horse shows. She is well on her way and is saving every penny earned so that she may achieve her goal.
